New post quotes ???

What is the reason of keep track of "New post quotes"?

I came from the Newsgroup era where we always quoted the post of the person whom we wanted to reply to. So that everyone knew to whom we were addressing.

And I did 99% of the time unless there is no one else responding to the thread. Then, I might skip the quote routine.

I fail to see the necessity of having this "New post quote".

Perhaps someone can present a valid reason ?

It's just another way to see who recently quoted you. I like it, but I fail to see the point of it showing who I quoted though.
