Windows Central Question

Slow Upload Speed 0.5mb/sec but Speed Test Download = 53mb/s & Upload = 12mb/s

Why is the upload speed so slow on my Onedrive?

Would have expected near 10mb/s not 0.5mb/s that I am currently seeing. Been uploading for 15 hours now and this is the average speed!

Is there anything can be done to speed this up?

I "REALLY" feel your pain...having the same issues. I had to move my OneDrive (86GB) from C:, to D:, on my Surface Pro 3 to clear up some disk space. The download is monopolizing my Internet speed, and killing my productivity. I did find a helpful feature in OneDrive; in the Hidden Icon Section of the taskbar: select the ^ to reveal all the hidden icons in the taskbar > Right Click on the OneDrive Icon > select "Pause syncing" > select: 2 hrs; 8 hrs; or, 24 hrs. I have had to do this a number of times to move some updates along.

Have you tried to restart the service? or the device?

And how many files are being uploaded? Are they small sized and many or large sized and few?

Yes have tried restarting the service. Also tried to upload some files from my work pc and getting similar speeds. Most of the files are photos which are around 3mb.

Looks like i need to find an alternative cloud service, as this is not acceptable. Was at 40gb after 2 days.... have stopped the upload now and will research alternatives.

the browser crashes with an out of memory error, have tried Google Chrome & Internet Explorer, both produce the same error. Dragging the folders onto onedrive in file explorer works best with no errors, but slow...

I tried to avoid the upload/download thing by just using the recommended MOVE method: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us...e/change-the-location-of-your-onedrive-folder

But.. still OneDrive is upload/download the 86GB of files, I am geographically restricted to ATT U-verse, and only 12mb/s download. Have worked with ATT Tech Support for 2.5 days, and MS Surface Tech Support for .5 days. Still no success as of yet. Microsoft Surface Support recommended go to a High-Speed Café to Upload/Download my OneDrive files; I haven't done so (yet), but it might be a good suggestion, and possible solution, for you?

Before you try another download service, I suggest you try to upload some file(s) to, say, Dropbox, Google drive, and ShareFile. THis, of course, to test the upload speed on your end. You should also do some broadband tests to see if the bottleneck is with your service.

I think it just might be, considering what speeds you get. It sounds very much like you have 12mps down, 1mps up (including overhead).

Edit: I now read the thread title (sigh!). But you should at least try some of the other free file sharing sites, as it might still be a problem with AT&T.
