How much say does Microsoft have in the hardware design other than the navigation buttons? It's almost like the OEMs are designing each chassis to look as good as the OS.

the only thing MS regulates is the HARDWARE and the OS . the design is 100% up to the OEM

Hardware = no phone left behind + it prevents OEM from makign CRAPPY phones.

OS = obviously we are not Android , hahaha

Well they have pretty set in stone specifications.

800x480 resolution. ( every game, every app will work )
also needs to have a real camera button and a volume rocker.
    Specific set of processors
    5MP camera minimun.

That's so you don't end with crap like the Behold 2.

I see. It's interesting that each of the WP7 phones has an elegant design, even the upcoming Nokia. Maybe it's just a coincidence, or the designers unconsciously have crafted such great looking hardware.

Me too, I hope it comes to the states, waterproof, 32gb and 13.2mega pixel camera had me drooling.

Also I don't like the HTC Surround. It's like an Arrive but without a purpose. ( The Mozart has surround sound )

I really dig the Sea Ray, although it seems to have a small screen (< 4 inch).

PS: Motorola Defy and the Casio Commander are waterproof! ;)

It feels cheap, well no feel, it is cheap. It flops off easily..and it's cheap.
whats with all the people bashing the plastic back? 99% of phones are plastic but w/e
i actually love the back on my focus more then the rest , its a SMART design
the edges are curved in . so when you grab it with your hands the back flows with the natural curve of your fingers tips/hand . its comfy , the other phones , you grab on the edges so its not Suited to your hand and feels wierd.. but i guess you guys like the metal feel over being comfortable :P

dont have the deal with the COLD metal in winter . or my skin getting scraped off from metal edges.

Gotta say the Omnia is the sexiest phone I've owned. Yeah the back isn't a stunner, but the way the AMOLED screen works is amazing, you can't see where the screen starts. Beautiful. Just wish I had a nice slimmer case for it.

HD7 equally sexy but the screen & camera on the HTC's were a turnoff.

I would like the HD7 if it wasn't that big and had a better screen. Maybe the HD7s look better but I'll have to see it for myself.

Sorry guys hands down its the Arrive with the Metal back and the solid keyboard its a no contest victory. The screen even looks fantastic day of night if it was just a tad bigger this would be the Perfect combination for me. I think this is the first HTC device I have had that didn't have any manufacturer defects. I have had 3 they have all been very well built. 1) Blew the speaker 2) Blew the speaker 3) Dropped it

Omnia 7 and the DVP which I own. The Dell is unique and the only one that seems to have had some thought go into the design. Reminds me of the XDA IIs, my fav phone of all time.

I have the arrive, and I think it's a beautiful phone. It's built like a swiss watch it seems like. I used to be one that couldn't live without a slide out and REAL buttons, but I think I've actually gotten to the point to where I can trust the on screen keyboard so much that I could do without the slide out. So, for my arrive, it feels a little thick because I don't always consider the fact that its a slide out.. I haven't used the slide out keyboard much lately.

The Arrive looks pretty good. I'd want a bigger screen. But from a build standpoint, it looks solid. But not having landscape support after you open the keyboard is a killer for me.

Not to seem offended and hating back, but I find the Optimus 7 to be ugly, so I guess we're on 2 completely different wavelengths there. ;)

My favorite WP7 is HTC HD7, design is awesome. I know it is huge, but I love and it is easy to use. Samsung has perfect WP7 design as well, better screen, but smaller and looks cheap, that was reason why I bought HTC HD. Dell Venue looks great, yeah, problem physical keyboard. I'm not physical keyboard fan.

Of all the WP7 phones I got to play with, my favorite was the Samsung Focus. The bigger and brighter screen make it excellent to look at, plus it's thinner and all touchscreen which makes it more compact and feels much better to use.
