Sometimes it can be very hard with my HTC Titan to get a close up shot. The camera just will not focus even when I'm using Macro mode. I discovered I can "trick" the camera into focusing on the foreground by releasing the camera button before it finish focusing but that can still be frustrating. It's also unreliable to tap in the area where you want the lens to focus.

I was outside today and decided to try another test. What would happen if I tapped and held my finger in place? My results were surprising. 3 out of 4 times I managed to get the lens to correctly focus on the foreground by holding my finger on the screen until the picture was taken.

The results:

Sample 3 Tap

Sample 3 Hold

My results are anecdotal and don't prove that holding is a better way to focus. However, I definitely had good results and will try again the next time the camera button isn't getting the job done.

Holding is much better because it initiates the auto focus,

But actually not using the camera button to take the picture and actually tapping the screen makes the picture come out better as well. In my opinion, tapping the screen will initiate autofocus and avoids a potential shake when trying to hold down the camera button.
