- Agreed. I wouldn't own white, because I don't like how old/grungy they get after a while, but I'm a straight guy and if I want to rock a magenta Lumia, !@#$ you and your negative opinions! (Clarification though, I want the new red 920 color... it had BETTER be coming to AT&T.)09-02-2012 09:15 PMLike 0
- I cannot believe that Samsung has done it once again!! Especially after rather "pocket biting" lawsuit.
Personally I think that Samsun ATIV may be a great and powerful devise. But so what if from the front you can't see anything different than an iPhone 3G with square button. From the back however they gave it a bit of a twist making it look like previous HTC handset.
I will speak only for myself and ask - where is your creativity Samsung? Didn't you learn your lesson yet? We all love our windows phones and personally I can't wait for more devices to be released but so far I'm disappointed and gutted with lack of design personality from Samsung.09-03-2012 03:29 AMLike 0 - I cannot believe that Samsung has done it once again!! It is totally understandable opinion. But I am not sure that I agree. There are only so many ways to make a device look classy, and the iPhone does NOT have a right to them all. In the 60's muscle cars all kinda looked the same. Doesn't mean they didn't all look great. Doesn't mean they all ripped off one. No one ever sued because the front bumper was rounded.
Besides the Kyrocera Echo was full of personality. It was also one of the biggest flops of last year after a release party that included a three week build up and a magic act.
I will take function and classy. Samsung has delivered that. Nokia is at the plate next to show it's best swing at the ball (in some fun colors). HTC... your on deck.09-03-2012 03:45 AMLike 0 -
The last detail is perhaps the biggest give-away that the styling is intentionally derivative. If they wanted physical buttons, why aren't all three bottom buttons physical? If they wanted capacitative buttons, why isn't the home button at the bottom center physical? One physical button and two capacitative buttons is hard to justify from an ergonomic or an aesthetic perspective...unless you're trying to make it look more like a device that just has one button at the bottom.
Not worth suing over in my opinion, but still a disappointing lack of independent styling direction.09-03-2012 03:49 AMLike 0 - ...it's true. From dead-on, ignoring the OS itself and the size difference, it's a dead ringer. The exact shape of the rounded rectangle, the chrome bezel, the bar-shaped speaker for the ear, and the single button at the bottom.

I doubt Apple would sue over hardware trade dress alone (they didn't sue over the Series 7 Chronos, the biggest ripoff of the MBP 15's styling I've ever seen), but technically speaking, they could if they want to.09-03-2012 05:19 AMLike 0
- The Ativ has no killer feature. Nokia's killer features are gorgeous design and PureView; if Nokia wasn't around, I'd be getting the next Nexus plain and simple. Samsung is not going to produce a better Windows Phone than its Android products.
Google's Nexus devices are hugely appealing for me, as I don't want to deal with Android's custom ROMs. Windows Mobile / Phone has actually been much better in that regard, as with Android you often lose functionality from running a ROM with the latest Android version.09-03-2012 05:25 AMLike 0 - One of my first mobile devices was a Nokia. I've never owned a Samsung device. though my monitor is a Samsung.I sort of like both the ATIVs is something that I could pull out at a meeting to me it's more refined more polished for the business end, where as the Lumia's are more laid-back lets have fun the 820 I'll have to see what it has for specs but being on T-MO the Sammy right now has the edge and with the new T-MO data plain you have to be insane to be on AT&T09-03-2012 06:09 AMLike 0

That leaves flashy designs and killer features as the stand-out options, and Nokia does have that for now. Hopefully with Apple and Nokia pressuring them, they will step it up a notch next year.- Share

- Samsung released a great phone, really similar in specs to the S3 and the design is different despite the fact that it's a 4.8" screen too... stop b*tching on samsung just because apple is greedy and you suddenly got behind apple because every move they made was favouring Windows Phone...
Would you like to know my other biased opinions?
1) I don't hate Google, but I don't like the fact that they are in the mobileOS world, they should have stayed as a search engine / google ads / google maps / gmail... whatever the h*ll they were doing 6 or 7 years ago...
2) I don't like Apple with iOS but I still preffer them to Android.
3) I don't like or dislike Samsung, I honnestly don't care about them... but as they lately are being so supportive of android, which I hate, I can't support them too.
4) I like Nokia and I like Microsoft. I also like HTC and I think this is the right moment for them to jump ship from android to WP8 as their priority.
5) I know I'm biased and I don't give a d*mn about what people think about it.09-03-2012 10:33 AMLike 0 - Of course I'm on the Apple side against Samsung (and I don't even like Apple)! I wouldn't need to be if Samsung wasn't so supportive of Android. I don't mind Samsung being the number 1 smartphone seller in the world as long as they don't achieve that with Android.

2) Second, its success and increasing user base was supported by low prices and not actual quality. You had to wait since 2008 for android to become a fluid OS, and not even Jelly Bean makes it perfect.
3) The OS is not well optimized for most phone specs. You need a beast phone in order to run the OS smoothly. Other OSs can have the same fluidity with much lower specs.
4) Carriers install too much bloatware on Android. It's annoying.
5) OS is more and more fragmented but I'll not not about that here as WP seems to suffer of the same problem.- Share

- Android is successful for one reason... they took the Windows PC approach to design and development... build it and release it quick using the cheapest components you can find, and underpower it so they'll want to upgrade to the high end devices. And load it up with lots of crap to subsidize the cost.
And we wonder why the high end stuff is so successful... people are sick of that nonsense. There's a reason the Apple tax doesn't bother Apple customers.09-03-2012 12:56 PMLike 0 - Android is successful for one reason... they took the Windows PC approach to design and development... build it and release it quick using the cheapest components you can find, and underpower it so they'll want to upgrade to the high end devices. The 920 vs ATIV s would have made a better match up, but since Nokia is keeping the design secret we'll have to wait.09-03-2012 08:21 PMLike 0
- 820's design hands down. If the camera is on par with the iPhone 4S / Galaxy S3 and it's a 720p screen, I'm sold.
Innovative hardware? What have they done recently? All I can think of is them pushing an over-saturated version of AMOLED onto everyone, and now they've hit a brick wall with PenTile.09-04-2012 12:44 AMLike 0 - 820's design hands down. I doubt any phone on the market would fall apart with my usage, so I really don't care. HTC, Nokia and Apple create perfectly solid devices, so Samsung really has no advantage in having their devices "well made" for the wider population (heck, many carry around glass iPhones - you really think they care?).

09-04-2012 02:06 AMLike 0 - Ive seen numerous times people referring to the Ativ as being metal, but it's totally that cheap but sturdy brushed metal Samsung plastic.
Give that molded poly carbonate pretty please. :)
I'm much rather have an HTC One with Windows Phone than the Ativ.- Share

- CMF is not a cheap material, yes it is plastic, but generally they don't use it because it cost too much and is only used because it is a lighter material than regular plastic.09-04-2012 02:19 AMLike 0

Excuse me, but isn't CMF "colour material finish"? Are you a Samsung shill, or do you know something I don't?Last edited by AngryNil; 09-04-2012 at 03:26 AM.
