How do the offline maps work on WP8?

Hi everyone,

Still new to the OS so I have more questions on maps this time:

1) When you download the map is it the whole country or is it like Google maps in that you highlight an area/city and it'll download that part?

2) Roughly how big are downloads? I'm getting the 8S soon so I may run out of space fast.

3) Can you save the offline maps to the SD Card?

1) Appears to be state-by-state.
2) ~200MB for California, if I remember right.
3) Not sure - no SD card in my Lumia 920.

I believe you can only save media to the SD-card. Don't quote me on that though becuase some apps may have access to it. Just for my 822, there are only options to save pictures, movies, and music to the SD card in settings. I wouldn't be surprised if an app asks you if you want to save data to an SD card though.
