Hey folks,

I've been using the Lumia 822 for over a month now and I noticed that the moment I reach over 70 characters a notice shows that it is already 2 messages and then when I reach 140 characters it becomes 3!!!

Is this because I use the flashed .0003 firmware? Or is this the same across all Windows Phone 8 devices?

It's the same on my 620 i think is just the limit the made for the phones and it really pissed me off when my nokia 110 goes way higher in the number of characters that can be added.

I have an 822 and it goes to 160 characters. Sounds like the firmware you flashed has a bug. If you can flash the previous version back on the phone, try that and see if it works.

HA! Found it!

Go to settings > network+ > sms character set!
i knew there was a setting for this lol

Mine is set to "reduced" and it goes to 160 in one sms!

Try messing with the options and see if it can solve your problem!

Its most likely a setting that toggles between ANSI (1 byte) and Unicode (2 bytes) character sets, Unicode requiring twice the amount of data as ANSI, hence a severely reduced SMS limit, although I would have expected to see 80, not 70.

SMS packets are 160 bytes, not 160 visible character symbols.

No, the limit is 140 8-bit bytes with 7 bit characters. Unicode at 16 bits per character gives you the 70 character limit.
