Hello,
How are you?
My name is Gon?alo. Since November I have an iPhone 5. It has been a good phone and very reliable, but after all this time, I am starting to get a bit bored with the hardware and also IOS.
I wish I had a bigger screen, a camera with more control and some different design. The prospects of the 5S being roughtly the same is desincouraging.
After reading about WP8, my interest is peacked. The current price reductions make the Lumia 920 a steal and I am seriously considering buying one to give it a try.
I just have a few questions that I hope you can help me out, before making the jump.

- I use two email accounts synced to the iPhone Mail app.
One is gmail that I guess is pretty easy to sync with WP8. The other is iCloud. Can I sync it to WP8 and have both on the same "all inbox" like on the iPhone?

- FOr contacts and calendar, I use iCloud. If I sync them to google contacts and google calendar, can I then sync the google services to the Lumia contacts app and calendar app?

- I have 1800 pictures and videos taken with the iPhone on my "camera roll". They are sorted by taken date. And the videos also, so the videos appear in the middle of the pictures, by the taken time. If I export all pics and videos to a PC and then Import them to the Lumia camera App, can I sort them the same way? And will new pictures taken with the lumia be added to the same roll?

- I have important SMS messages on my iPhone I would need to import to the Lumia. Any way to do it?

- I use a home banking app alot on the iPhone, but my bank only has a WP7 version of the App. Will it work on WP8?

SO, that is pretty much it. I would really apreciate your help.

Thank you very much!
Best regards!

Hi Gon?alo,

Welcome to the Wpcentral forums :)

I am answering your questions in bold text below:

Yes, I have synced both Gmail and iCloud to my Windows Phone

- FOr contacts and calendar, I use iCloud. If I sync them to google contacts and google calendar, can I then sync the google services to the Lumia contacts app and calendar app?

Yes. You will need to create a hotmail.com / Outlook.com Microsoft account when you setup your Windows Phone, but you can still choose to only use Google for contacts. Personally, I have transferred my contact database to Outlook.com but it doesn't really matter.

- I have 1800 pictures and videos taken with the iPhone on my "camera roll". They are sorted by taken date. And the videos also, so the videos appear in the middle of the pictures, by the taken time. I am uncertain if imported photos will be sorted by date on the phone. In the default Photos app, there is a view for photos taken with the phone to be viewed by month. For specific date/time, there is a Microsoft app called Foto Timeline which certainly sorts old imported Windows phone photos - I *think* this should work for iPhone photos.

- I have important SMS messages on my iPhone I would need to import to the Lumia. Any way to do it?

I do not think this is possible. Someone on the forum suggested contacting mobile network providers to see if they can transfer your messages to a new device.

- I use a home banking app alot on the iPhone, but my bank only has a WP7 version of the App. Will it work on WP8?

Which banking app is it? I have a Windows Phone 8 device and could check in the store for you. Most apps for WP7 work for WP8, though there are a few apps and games that do not.

About the photos, you can put them on SkyDrive, it syncs seamless with WP8, and you can even sort them on your PC for instance.

I haven't used it, but the Nokia exclusive Transfer My Data app says it transfers contacts and photos too, from supported phones.

Is there anyone here with an iPhone who can verify Transfer My Data works? I didn't mention it because as far as I know, it doesn't actually transfer SMS messages between iPhone and Windows Phone.

I am very curious why those SMS messages are s? important. Can't you put that messages in your mailbox or something?

The bank app certainly seems to work on WP8 - I downloaded, installed and ran it.

Re SMS, it's up to you I guess how important it is to have them on your phone, versus getting a Windows Phone. You could certainly back them up in some way to email or a text document, they just probably cannot be transferred to a Windows Phone to read in the Messaging app.

In my opinion though, losing some data (or having it not be accessible in the same way) is part of changing technology and always will be to some extent.

Hello,
The banking app is:
Activo Bank | Loja de Aplica??es+Jogos Windows Phone (Portugal)

It has a Windows Phone 8 version

It is a 2011 app. I don't know if it will work well.
For IOS it is more up to date and I use it alot.

The SMS thing might be a deal breaker. I cannot loose them.
For android, they can me transfered, like this:
How To Transfer IPhone Text Messages (SMS) To Android Phone

Any similar process for WP8?

Cheers and thank you very much for your replies!

you likely can transfer your texts from android to Windows Phone, so it may be a three step process. IOS -> Android -> WP

Transferring SMSes from iPhone to WP8 seems to work well, based on reviews of the "Transfer my data" app.

However, ironically, transferring them from my Lumia 710 to my Lumia 920, only transferred the INCOMING messages from each contact, and none of the messages I sent to them!

The texts are important to me. Not by a practical value, but by an emotional value. It's hard to explain really.
In regard to the camera app, when you take a picture, what is the formta of the file name and where is the picture stored?
Does it have something like the "camera roll" on the iPhone?

Cheers and thanks!

Yes, it exactly has an camera roll (which can be synced with SkyDrive if you want to)
