Hello all, I think I have already answered my own question, but here goes. I am after a fairly low cost tablet, i.e. not Apple prices. I would like to spend less than 200. It isn't for me, it is for my son who will be 5. After a brief look around I am thinking a Nexus 7 is the best option. I may even go with last year's model. They can be had for enough under 200 that I have spare cash for covers and cases etc. I may even go for a cheaper non Nexus, as my boy will only be using it, and he may not appreciate the quality of the Nexus. I am open to ideas, don't limit it to just tablets.

isn't the iPad mini 250 pounds or less now? I think it can be an option you could pursue.

Also there is the Asus Fonepad , I think it was 180 pounds (might be different now) and finally the Kindle series are also very cheap. So there you go 4 options :D

    Hope it helps

It does, cheers. More options are always good. He is really keen on the Android platform. Mainly because he likes Subway Surfers, Angry Birds etc. My only concern is that I would like it to be able to play AVIs, although I had heard it is tricky to get them to work.

The last time I used Android there were so many video players I lost count. I think mx player, BS PLayer and Mobo player were decent and have wide range of codecs.

You just pop a file from your pc or internet , use a file explorer like ES file explorer and open up in one of the players.

Whatever you do, avoid the HP Slate7 like the plague. Can't really say for others though, but the Nexus 7 is well built and is quality, both generations.

You probably won't get a much better deal than a used Nexus 7 (2012), or even new if you can find one. The build quality is average, but the OS experience is as good as can be had with an Android.

Thanks, as long as my son can manage it, happy days. I have not used Android for a bit, and not a tablet at all really. Thanks for the help.

seen them online, 160, so I may plump for one of those. I am happy to buy him the new one, but the little scamp may drop/lose it. So I would rather he loses or damages a cheaper one.

One other benefit is that I can use it for Smart Glass on the Xbox One, boom!

From a number of sources, if you crack the screen on a nexus 7, the device will no longer function. The majority of ipads will continue to function with a cracked screen. Something to keep in mind with a child using it.

Cheers. It is a concern. But I don't fancy dropping iPad money.
