IE stability?

Anyone else having stability issues with IE? It keeps crashing on me.... maybe 6 times in the last 40 minutes.

Yep, me too. It can go hours without crashing on basic pages, but as soon as I load something intensive, especially pages with a lot of comments it crashes pretty quick. Only started happening with full 8.1. I was previously running 8.1 preview and stability was fine, but it was no where near as smooth and fast. Hopefully we'll get an update soon with the best of both worlds.

yep, that's been my experience. i've also had some apps do this, so i'm not sure it's just IE. or example, the AMC Walking Dead app crashes a lot when something more intensive is happening. i'm going to mess around some of the more intensive apps this afternoon and see if it's just a coincidence that both of these apps crash under more intensive work or if maybe it's a hardware or os glitch of some kind that just fails under intensive processes. i suppose it's more likely to be software related if it's happening to more people under similar circumstances, which is a relief because an update will fix the issue.

thanks for the reply.

Took me 20 minutes of IE restarting just to post this response. The metro UI just appears out of nowhere and swiping from the left (or opening IE) brings it back up. It doesn't automatically reopen after crashing. Also, has anyone else noticed that some sites open to the mobile version? I've gotten redirected to quite a few mobile versions of normal sites (Facebook, ESPN just to name a few) with no option or way of getting a desktop version.

UPDATE: Still crashing. Now SkyDrive and the Mail app are crashing.

Was there an update that might be responsible? Like you say, the crashing seems new and is maybe even spreading. I noticed it first w/ IE, then the AMC app, then Facebook did it twice which is far fewer than IE and the AMC Walking Dead app. So that makes me think it's either an OS problem.

So so far these apps have the crashing problem IE, the AMC app, SkyDrive, Mail, and Facebook. I wonder if this is isolated to just RT. I'll try out my Pro tonight and visit the same websites on RT and Pro and see if and what crashes. I'll let you know what happens.

I get crashes even on basic pages, I get several crashes on Hacker News (no ads, basic table driven HTML). The Surface team asked (over Twitter) if the crashes come during desktop or modern IE use, almost 100% of my usage is in the modern app so I've switched to the desktop version to see if the crashes persist. Anybody else noticed different frequencies between the two?

So I don't know if what's happening is a crash. IE seems to just spontaneously go away... like I hit the home button or something. It'll "crash" but I can then pull it back open by swiping in from the left. Happens on both machines on simple and complex pages. Sometimes even after a page has fully loaded.

My Surface RT does this as well when using Modern UI.

I love using Modern UI over desktop because of the UI but I don't recall any crash issues in Desktop, just modern.

Like someone said, it's like you pressed the Window button and it goes back to your start screen(In fact the first time it was happening, I thought i may have accidentally hit the Windows button) but if you swipe from the left it comes back up and goes back to the page.

It is really annoying.

Like said above, IE 11 on windows rt. 8.1 preview was slow(it was actually annoying as crap) but I had no issues with crashing like this(usually every couple of minutes). IE 11 Modern on Windows RT 8.1 official update is much faster but crashes way too often.

For now i just use desktop.

So still no sign of an update to IE to fix this issue. With other apps crashing (now the stock weather app refuses to open). Considering reverting back to 8.0.

Mine worked fine in the beginning, but now it has started crashing, not as bad as some off you seem to have though.

My IE works horribly as well. I can repro it by doing a bing search into the url bar, then clicking on one of the search results. When I swipe back to the search results, IE freezes up. It makes the whole "swipe back" paradigm an experience in suck.

I was having similar issues but KB 2901549 update seemed to fix it for me. Check your updates.
