Computer charges it but dooesn't recognize

Hello everyone,

So I've had my HTC S8 for quite a while now. Recently I noticed I had my automatic update off all along, I turned it on and instantly got a couple of updates. I installed both of them, but then I plugged my phone into my Medion notebook. At first it did absolutely nothing, I searched the forums and found that the fix was to go to Music+Videos and disable some kind of xBox cloud thing, but no settings came under Music+Videos, it just had a little box saying suggestions. Apparently the fix for that was to do a hard reset, I did just that and the settings still weren't there. But the phone now started charing everytime I plugged it in and it goes under "Unspecified" in Devices and Printers. It's definetly not the cable as I have used it before for file transfer and it came with the phone.

Ok, a couple of quick things to try, I hope one helps:
Do you plug your USB cable into the same USB port consistently? Windows has always treated USB wonky when it comes to devices and drivers.
Did you right click on the unknown devices and allow it to find a driver?

Beyond that, I wish I could help more.
