I'm looking to change my Verizon HTC 8x to Straight Talk. My phone has a bad EIN, so I can't do it the easy way through Straight Talk. Anyone have experience flashing a Windows 8 phone? I've found guides using CDMA Workshop but I don't know if this will work with the Windows OS. Any help appreciated! Willing to pay for flashing service. Thanks.

Have you tried inserting a GSM SIM in it and see if it at least works?

Does it have a SIM slot? Is that SIM slot unlocked? If so, then yes. Find a friend with ATT service, and pop their SIM card into your phone. You'll know then.

No, I don't have GSM service providers in my rural area, just Verizon thru CDMA so I wouldn't get any data with GSM. Thanks for the suggestion, though.

Well, if your EISN is flagged bad, the only way you're going to get any service without paying off the bill to Verizon is to use ATT, or Tmobile via SIM.

Just FYI, it is illegal to change the IMEI of a phone.

When you say it is bad, what makes it bad?

I bought the phone used knowing it had a "bad" IMEI and wouldn't be able to activate it on Verizon. Don't know the circumstances, but was hoping to make it work on Straight Talk. Thanks for the replies.

Well, you might call Verizon and ask them what's wrong with the phone. Worst case scenario is that they don't tell you anything, right?

Unfulfilled contract (you still owe them money,) or stolen.

Thanks. I figured stolen, but wondered if there were other reasons.
