My gf just got her first smart phone. She went with the iPhone. I tried to steer her to WP but the best phones are big and have pointy corners. What gives with this design concept (cough Nokia)?

I don't understand all these new huge phones. Nor do I get the wish for sharp corners. I have the 920, I wouldn't go any bigger than this, kinda wish it was bit smaller. And I hate the damn rectangle shape and sharp corners.

I hope the trend of huge and square corners goes away from WP/Nokia. I don't believe a lot of people are into it, and I wouldn't be surprised that a lot of folks are actually turned off by it.

Why not try the 820 or 720 for your gf?

The problem is that smartphone design is an ever moving target. Rounded shapes were everywhere, but lately, phones have been doing a lot with square, flat phones with sharp corners: Nokia phones, the HTC One series, the experia phones are all examples.

some are more angular than others like the 928, 520, but if you want something rounder, I think the 620, 720, 820 are potential options for you to look at

925 sound perfect for her. Compact, but still high-end specs.

So she's turned off by "sharp" corners but not the "sharp" iPhone bezel? Assuming she got a 5S.

Frankly, I find phones like the 5C hard to hold cause they are all rounded. I much prefer a phone like Nokia 928 or 929/Icon.

Sharp phones? The 1020 has curved and rounded edges...

I much prefer the pointy corners on WP phones than the sharp edges on the sides of iphones and the flat back, so not ergonomical. I find a rounded back so much nicer to hold, and pointy corners don't bother me at all.

I find my HTC 8X perfect to hold.

Isn't the 925 pretty big itself? How does it compare to the 920?

No. It's really compact. It's not as small as an iPhone, but then again nothing is. But it has rounded edges, smooth curves, and is pretty light.

925 has the same size screen but thinner and lighter than 920. Also relatively more rounded on the corners.

But seriously though, why rounded corners?? That just makes every phone look the same (samsung, iphone, etc) and tasteless. A huge factor that got my gf and I in buying 920/1020 is the fashionable design that looks modern and stands out.

The Samsing ATIV S is a more traditional business-like design, might be something for her.

Nokia, like Sony, has a more "fashion statement" design in mind, I think.
