disable proximity sensor (for kayaking)

i am going kayaking and need to be able to waterproof my lumia while keep it available for calls .
a transparent bag would do the trick to send text messages, but for incomming calls the proximity sensor blacks out the screen when it senses the plastic bag.

what is the technology behind the proximity sensor? could i use some sort of foil to fool it? is there an app to turn it off?

Unfortunately I don't think you can turn that off

is there any workaround? one idea i had for the screen blacking out was to mark the position of the buttons 'end call' and 'speakerphone' on the screen protector with a sharpie pen
so i will be able to press them even with the screen blacked.....but i forgot the proximity sensor disables the touch screen so you cant press anything....

any ideas? thanks

navigation? having navigation on does not disable the proximity sensor during phone calls, screen is still black and touch is disabled
