Hello,

I thought about planning an collection of exemplarily Windows mobile phones and / or PDAs. As I first step I was trying to get an overview of the history of Windows on handhelds and which devices were first and last using the different Windows versions.

So I was wondering if there exists something like the following for Windows:

The Palm Timeline | webOS Nation

(I could not find anything like that. But maybe I haven't looked hard enough.) Or maybe you know it.

So I'm thankful for any hint or suggestions!

Best GoJoe

All I remember are the WM Treo (2005) and the mogul (2007) but I'm sure they go back to 2002 but I don't know the names of the devices. The last Windows mobile powered device released in the united states was the LG Expo in 2010. Some Windows mobile/phone devices I had are:

2004-2005: HP ipaq h1910
2005-2009: Dell axim X51v (originally purchased an X50 but many replacements resulted in an X51v).
2009-2010: HTC Touch pro
2010-2011: HTC Touch pro 2 (stolen in 2013)
2011:HTC Arrive
2011-2012: HTC HD7 (also stolen in 2013)
2012- Today: HTC Windows Phone 8X

The earliest WM phone I had was the Motorola MPx220 flip phone which ran WM2003. Another WM2003 phone was the HP h6300 from T-Mobile (an abortion that lived). My first WM5 device was the HTC Star Trek (another flip phone). I've always liked the unconventional WM phones like the ones I just mentioned especially the HTC X7501. That was like carrying a laptop. A heavy laptop. Good luck on your list, give us a holler if you get stuck down memory lane.

My first Windows CE device was the HP Jornada 525. It didn't even support USB, only serial port and IR syncing. My first Windows Mobile phone was the Samsung ACE, then the Samsung Intrepid (which I still have). Then I went to WP7 with the HTC Arrive and finally to WP8 with the Nokia Lumia 822.

The whole reason that I looked up this thread is because I noticed something peculiar today in One Drive. I looked up my resent activity today and it showed that I accessed it with my home pc. What was strange was the other two activities. When I accessed One Drive with my Windows Phone 8 (Nokia Lumia 822), it was listed as a Windows CE device. I suppose that is some stray code leftover from the past.

I didn't see XP Tablet Edition listed.

Probably bundled in with XP as it wasn't that popular and I was really just XP with Tablet editions bolted on, anyway, OP was asking if Windows CE/Mobile/Phone had a timeline and that's what that article shows.

I was a Palm junkie back in the day, but I found my dad's Casio Cassiopeia A-11 which was powered by the interesting Windows CE 1.0.
After that I eventually picked up a Palm Treo 700w and Pro, but that was pretty much it.
