Setting up a phone for a kid

I have a spare 521 that I would like to give my kid a phone for emergencies and to allow him to listen to music and play a few games. But I don't want him to text/phone anyone else but those that are authorized. I have it setup on T-Mobile's controls for most access restrictions but what else has other folks done when setting up the phone for kids?

have you tried using the kid's corner in settings?

Kid's Corner lets you set apps and such to appear in a left-swipe screen but doesn't really let you lock down the device. Best thing to do might be to not pin those apps on the Start Screen (Messaging, People, Etc).

On my wish list for Phone 8.1 is Family Safety integration for the phone. That would give you and me as parents the ultimate in tools to keep our kids safe on their devices as well as promote the WP ecosystem. (Just in case anyone from the WP 8.1 team is reading... wink..wink..)
