With all the grousing, you'd think that WP8.1 was a total fail. Except it's anything but. The improvements are numerous, and the "issues" that most people have posted about are mostly kneejerk reactions posted without just spending a bit of time fiddling (not all, mind you, but many).
Here's a good example of a huge positive: Simple Calendar can now link right to the main system calendar, removing the need for that dev to put a screen in that says "open the OS calendar to change/edit this appointment." Now it just works. Huge improvement.
