Camera Point Selected Exposure Metering

One of the things iPhone users like is that their camera app can meter the photo exposure from a user selected point on the screen (rather than balanced over the whole picture).

Personally I thought Windows Phone did exactly the same, so I thought I'd do a quick test to verify this.

The answer is that it does too. The two photos below are the same point with everything on auto in the default Windows Phone camera app. The only difference is on the first shot, I pressed the screen in the sunlight. In the second I pressed the screen in the shade.

You can see in the EXIF that exposure is auto metered at the point and it shows the benefit of pressing the screen to select a point to get optimal lighting for the area you are taking a photo of:
