Problems using Outlook..can't get mail

So i am getting ready to make the switch to a windows based phone. bought a used nokia 520 to play with. Any way. I have my account setup correctly. Problem is I leave my mail on my computer up all day long. My phone will not retrive any new messages. But if i close my mail on my desktop. I can get the new mail on my phone. Here are my questions:
1. How can get all my mail on my phone?
2. If i close outlook then reopen, why does my mail disappear?

Sounds like your PC is using POP3 and is downloading and deleting the mail from the server, so the phone cannot then get it.

Look in the account settings on the Desktop Outlook:

•If you don’t want email to be deleted from your Outlook.com inbox after it’s downloaded to your email app, select the Leave a copy of messages on the server option.

have that option checked, and remove after 14 days. still happens.
