Duplicate people

Hello. My wife and I both have WPs. We want to share all of our contacts and calendars. Since there's no way to share contacts between Microsoft accounts (at least none I can find), I decided to just set up a single Microsoft account for both of us to use. This also allows us to share purchased apps, so we don't have to purchase twice for the same app.

So, I created the account and set both of our phones up with it sometime last year. Generally, things work fine, but in our contacts, each contact slowly started showing up as having 2 linked records. Almost all the contacts show up this way, but not all. Both show as "Hotmail" on the phone and there are two "Outlook" icons when I look at the contacts on outlook.com. See screenshots below.

Before I go through and attempt to update each of our100s of contacts as an attempt to fix it, I wanted to see if this has happened to anyone else and/or if anyone knows the cause. Thanks.

Having the same thing here too.
I know Outlook looks out (pun) for similar contacts from social media sources then adds on.

I tried this on PC in the people tab on my account to get rid of dups:


It removed some, then some contacts came right back.
