WP8.1 DP and Official

A lot of people asked about transitioning between 8.1 DP and official when it comes out. I know I'll be able to get it when it's released. I have I lil question though. Can I get the official update without waiting for my carrier? My carrier is slow at updates. I'm just planning to wait for MS to release the official update and for Nokia to release Lumia Cyan too. Will that work?

The Developer Preview will probably be the same as what's in the actual phones anyway.
The original enthusiast program was meant as a way to bypass carriers and you could say that the DP is their way of doing that.

There is no access program for Nokia firmware updates at this moment. The only other option would be flashing your phone with an unbranded ROM.
