Today I was talking to one of the T-Mobile store managers about the release of 8.1 on the 521. She told me that they have not locked on to a specific date till date. She even accessed her account for further details and said that only 925 has an official date, the 521 is simple slated this "Summer". So she said we cant expect the update anytime soon.

Im absolutely devastated by the news given the fact that AT&T has started rolling out the updates :eck:

The 521 is a budget phone unlike the 925, and given T-Mobile's Uncarrier efforts, I imagine they're using their funds for other stuff than clearing updates ASAP.

At least you can look forward to an update unlike the 810, so don't say "absolutely devastated" yet!

Also these comparisons aren't really great, noting that AT&T was dead last in releasing GDR2/Amber IIRC.

Hard to say with these updates.

I followed the "Black" update status for me 521 on MS\Nokia's update page.
Never seemed to say the black firmware was coming with any definition.
Suddenly one day the device notified me of an update which was Black from T-Mo.

I had just looked at the update page and that indicated "Coming soon"
Never did see "available" until after I had the update.

More unpleasant news for the Lumia 521 owners. Earlier today i called my T-Mobile store because I got impatient waiting for the update, so i thought i would trade in my 521 for the new 635. This is what the store Representative said to me,

"Sir, the trade in value for your 521 would be 5$ in store credit," she said and I replied, "Wow! really?" (Obviously you understand my exclamation for) and she continued, "Yea I'm sorry. We are planning to stop all support for the 521 because we are promoting the new lumia 635 hereafter."

There you go folks, its not the 5$ value got me off, but "Planning to Stop ALL SUPPORT for lumia 521" got me down! what's your take on this?

Lol...
Apologies for giggling about this.
Try calling a different location and see what their answer might be.
The distance between corporate and a store employee would be very great.

I'd at least ask in the T-Mobile community support forum I'm sure the answers there will be quite different.
We'll see what happens with legacy devices on T-Mobile very soon I'm sure.
