Oops, I broke it! Gears spin, phone shuts off

After downloading the Windows Phone 8.1 GDR1 update and trying to install it, the phone rebooted and now all it does is show the "NOKIA" screen then it goes to the spinning gears for a few, and it shuts down again. Note that it's not the "infinite spinning gears"; these appear for a moment, then the phone will shut off by itself. Everytime I try to boot it up, it does the same thing. I have no idea what went wrong here. Did I break it? Is it bricked? How do I fix it? o.o

Edit: Forgot to add my device is a Lumia 520.

Remove the battery and then remove the SD card and then reboot.

Okay, I took out the battery and the SD card, then I put the battery in and tried to turn the phone on; no luck with that. Then I put the SD card in and that didn't do the trick, either. Thanks anyway

Sounds like you might to need to use the nokia recovery tool.

Can you plug in your phone to your PC to retrieve the data store on the phone?

As this process will reflash your phone's rom thereby wiping it completely clean and downgrading it to the public O/S version currently available for your phone.

Thanks, TechFreak1; I reflashed my phone then installed all the updates consecutively. Now it's working properly.
