I see a lot of free apps that have a long list of access requirements that the app does not need. Since many of these apps also don't includes ads is it just a given that the reason the apps exist is to gather information about whoever installs them which would include all their photos, music and data files (in some cases)?
I guess its not just free apps that do this.
Any way to override permissions via the registry or other means?
Any way to track actual accesses and transmissions?
I wonder why MS doesn't require developers to describe what apps do with the permissions you give them? It may just be be the honor system but still valuable. I know I don't install free or paid apps just because they don't divulge what they do with all the permissions they list as requirements.
