Is this trick new to search or was it available from long back In Cortana?

Hi, just now I observed a little trick while browsing with IE, I came a cross a word and I just wanted to search that term, so I copied it to clipboard and I hit the search button, I thought I have to paste it in Cortana search field, but it actually searched the term by itself surfaced the web results.
It's a neat little trick so u don't have to paste the query into text field in Cortana.
Did anyone observed this trick before or is it new?

I asked the same question like a year ago and was told it's not new. You don't even have to copy it to clipboard though, just highlight and click search. Very handy

it felt very natural the first time I did it, just like thinking it should be that way and it turns out it was
