time to upgrade phone from 1020, should i choose a 830 or 930?

basically i currently have a Nokia Lumia 1020. lovely phone, got it after my 920 died, but ever since the 8.1 update it has become noticablely sluggish, at first it wasnt so bad, but recently it has become reeeeally slow, and i am fed up with it tbh. today i realised that i am actually 3 days over my contract renewal date (thanks EE for reminding me - not!!!) so i get to choose a new phone. i cannot decide between the 830 and the 930.

i want the 930 for the faster CPU - since the 1020 feels sooo slow and apparantly the 830 has a simillar speed CPU,

and the reason i would want the 830 is the Glance screen (i really love that feature), and the micro SD slot - not essiential but would be a nice feature.

but also i am considering waiting for this 'flagship Lumia' they are going to announce in April, but then it wont likely come out till July at the earliest. so i am torn.

either way i would finally get to use Cortana since the 1020 dosent have the Denim update yet, so thats a plus. as far as i know they both have the same screen size, but i cannot decide. what are your thoughts? they will be helpful thankyou.

side note - would it be worth going for the 735 to tide me over?

if the 1520 was 930 sized i would get it in a heartbeat, but, the phone would just feel too big to me, its a great phone but i am not a big fan of phablets (i believe thats the term) tbh.

I am in the same situation with my 1020. I really like it and I almost pulled the trigger on the 1520 a few weeks ago but decided to wait because knowing my luck there will be a kick *** phone announcement only 2 months after I upgrade. Try resetting your phone and starting over. If you haven't done that in a while it may help with the sluggish feel. I know it did for mine.

Are you on ATT? Where are finding a 930? and has the supplier confirmed that is will work on ATT? My search reveals the 930 will have slower internet speeds on ATT and MMS may or may not work with customization?

I'd go for the 930... Just because of the spec sheet bump.... If you're really going to decide between the 930 and 1520... If the prices are similar I'd go for the 1520. Here the price of the 1520 unlocked was 300 usd more expensive than the 930! Lol. So 930 it was for me.

The 930 has a great camera too. I used a 1020 for a while and I can tell that the camera is not as great as that and at night you will need some patient/practice to take a great photo, but with practice you can get results similar to 1020. Can't tell anything about the 830, never used one.
About the speed, I currently have denim installed, but sometimes I feel like it could be a bit faster in opening/resuming apps, especially compared to Iphone 6. It might be the Os, I get the resuming/loading with some frequency, tough it never takes long. But I'm really satisfied with the 930.

I did a hybrid of your ideas lol. I went and purchased an 830 off contract, and am waiting for the next phone in the mean time.

You should honestly wait for the new flagship because its coming out this year. You're tempted because you just want a fast usable device but upgrading now is useless as in a few months, honest a short period of time when you look at it, you could have the latest and greatest for free.
So try resetting your 1020 or buy a cheap 928 or something decent that would last you until the new flagship. In the meantime you could look forward to windows 10 preview to tide you over as you wait. It'll be worth it in the end. Have patience.

The best advice that i can possibly give is that whenever you're looking into the market to buy anything (smartphones/any kind of computing device even cars and toaster), you should never ever rush your buy based on the moment (hype).

the 830 have glance display but i wish that be faster and not only 1.2GHZ 4 cores while my current 820 is 1.5GHZ 2 cores my brother got the 830 and is like the 920-925 in general but with SD card which is a plus if takes lot of pictures or video
