Yes it is working on my L1520 as well.

OS 8.1015137.148
FW 02540.00019.15053.26003

Anyone else who has L1520, L435, L830 can check and confirm if this is working for them as well.
Also, anyone else apart from malvo26, can check and confirm on L820. In my L820, it even can not read the values but malvo26 can read and write.

@ malvo26, can you check this way and let know pls...

Uninstall Root Tool
Put the SD in card reader and DELETE ALL the contents of WPSystem - or even FORMAT the SD card.
Install Root Tool to phone (do not run the app) move it to SD and delete those two xml files and CUT and paste the HACK folder contents to the install folder.
Move the app back to phone and run and see if it works.

@ malvo26, I just tried it once again in L820 and it works. Mistake in my earlier try was - unable to read from the 3 registry keys due to it was not created. Created those keys and its working now.
Good luck to all those who wants to keeps maps in their SD.
Will have a watch on this thread for those who seek help.

That seems like a great solution to the problem of moving maps to the sd card. Does anybody know if a video guide has been created for those of us that are a little inept at this type of thing?

There's a much simpler way.. Install Lumia storage app beta(search it in Bing).. Them in app you ll find option to save 💾 maps to sd card...

It has been pulled from the store, months ago, sadly.

No luck here with my Lumia 635.

I was fortunate enough to be able to load the Lumia Storage Check app into my Lumia 520 before the app was pulled from the Windows phone store, but I'd really like to get this working on my 635.

Is there a way to bypass Windows phone store check in order to sideload the Lumia Storage Check app?

Root Tool has been pulled from the store, but you can do the same by installing vcREG and using the built-in registry editor: (h t t p : / /) forum.xda-developers.com/windows-phone-8/development/xap-vcreg-lumia-reg-editor-live-interop-t3135326

It is more complicated, and you first need to developer-unlock your phone, then follow the tutorial. It worked on my Lumia 640, how good it is to free up some space on the phone, and to have virtually unlimited storage for maps on the SD card...

Microsoft is too lasy to implement a simple "store maps on SD card" option (it only takes 3 simple registry modifications as stated in the first post). or maybe they want to artificially make the phones with lower storage space more lower-end so that you have to buy a higher-end model to store maps? Well, screw you, Microsoft! This works!

I don't have a UseExtendedStorage
but I do have a UseExternalStorage and making it 00000001 works. My apps now on SDcard on my Lumia 640 XL

I don't know if the Extended is a typo but External works.

So now that both the ROOT Tool and Mix Radio have been pulled from the Windows Store by micro-crap...does anyone know of another work-around to save Here Maps to SD Card in WP 8.1.
I have the 640 XL LTE Dual SIM.
Thanks.

I do have but you need to root unlock your phone prior to that. So after root unlocking download this Tweaker Xap and deploy using Windows Phone 8 xap deployment tool.

After that open the app and select this option
