I have a nokia lumia 822 and I've had it for a few years.

The screen broke and the battery is pretty shotty.

My friend gave me his old Lumia 822. He no longer pays for service no this phone because he got an iphone.

What would be the procedure for putting all my information (phone number, pictures, apps, start screen setup/tile setup) onto this newer Lumia 822?

Thank you!

Add the replacement by hard resetting then add your Microsoft account during set-up.
When asked to install items from your latest back up say yes.

Most things will comeback if you have a recently backed up your broken device with your current Microsoft account.
Good luck there...

I have hard reset the phone already.

At what specific point should I put my sim card in though? Is it..

**New phone off
**Put in Sim Card/sd card
**Turn new phone on
**Enter msft account
**Say 'yes' to install items from latest backup

How does that sound? Thanks Guytronic - this is super helpful :)

Would it matter that my old phone still has the msft account linked to it? is it possible to have the same msft acct on two phones?

I've had multiple phones on the same Microsoft account.
There is a limit however.
I believe Microsoft allows 8 devices max.

You will be able to delete any unwanted device from the account by logging in to your MS account via desktop.
Look for "Devices" and delete or disable any that are no longer needed.

Hey Guytronic - I appreciate all the attention you're giving me - honestly - thank you. Just wanted to give you an update and ask yet another question.

I turned new phone off, put in sim card/sd card, added my msft acct..but was never asked if i wanted to install items from latest backup. :( Is that weird?

That might happen if the older phone was never backed up under your current MS account.

If there are backup files available those can be seen by looking at the account under your login on desktop.
