Posted this on PPCGeeks, thought I'd share the wealth here, it was killing me and the fix is kinda shotty but at least you can do it!

OK... I have a fix, but it kinda sucks haha. PocketPcUtils has an option to turn off screen.

Put that on your ppc and soft reset. Now you have a program for soft resetting your phone. Set this to be the push side button option. When you are in a call push the side button.
You will have options now, Screen, Power, Reset, etc... Press screen and everything goes black while you are IN CALL!
The only problem is that the only way to get the screen back up is to press the end button, thus, ending the call! So it works but it isn't perfect haha.
