Hi all

What do you use for PC gaming for me, I've always used my laptop and now that I upgraded my laptop a month ago to an ASUS VIVOBOOK S500 which the spec are:

  1. 3rd Gen i5 processor dual core (i5-3317u) up to 2.60GHz)
  2. Intel HD 4000 graphics (it does the job)
  3. 8GB of RAM at 1600MHz (it originally had 4GB) lot better now with 8GB!
  4. 1366*768 Screen Touch Screen
  5. 5400RPM HITACHI HDD
  6. Windows 8

That the important part anyway so what does everyone else use desktop or laptop and the specs?!?

Well that destroyed my laptop specs, if only I could upgrade my laptop like I can with a desktop.

Here's my gamer I built a couple years ago... still runs all the latest games nicely at high settings.

Intel Core i7 920 quad core cpu
EVGA X58 SLI LE M/B
BFG Nvidia GeForce GTX295 (dual gpu runs in SLI on single card)
6GB Corsair Dominator DDR3
WD 150GB Velociraptor 10k rpm
WD 1TB green
Thermaltake BlackWidow 800w ps
CoolerMaster HAF 932 case
AOC 27" 1080p LED (2ms response time)

It's getting around time I built a new one though.. I'm lusting over a new GeForce Kepler card, a Haswell i7, and a newest gen ssd

I used to game only on consoles, but now that I bought a GTX 660 a couple months ago, I have finally seen how better PC gaming is. I live the deals steam has, they are so awesome lol :p

Anyways, the rest of my rig is as follows:

Core i5 2400
24" Monitor
2tb hardrive
8gb of ram
Windows 8.

Pretty proud of that build too :p

I also have a dual core AMD laptop, (an 18.4" Toshiba) I wouldn't try to play any heavy duty games on it, though It does have the ATI radeon mobile graphics.. 4GB of ram and blah blah.. I use it as my OS test mule. Usually play around with with different Linux distros on it, but right now it's got the Windows 8.1 preview and I'm lovin it! :)

PC gaming is def. better. My desktop has yet to meet a game it won't run smoothly on Ultra settings. Connect it to my big screen and WOW! It is amazing how bad ps3 and xbox360 look compared to it. I don't expect the new generation to be able to compare either, though obviously closer.

The only reason I want a next-Gen console is because of Kingdom Hearts 3. Everything else I want to play I can get on PC :p

After sporting gaming laptops for like 4 years, I decided to move to a PC due to upgradeability (laptops life cycle was like 2 years with no option to upgrade if something broke/was insufficient + overheating) and also cos I sorta of grew out of the age where I lived at my mom and dads and felt like I needed the mobility.

I have my main tank of a desktop unit (which needs an upgraded graphics card) for my major gaming and livestreaming, and my laptop for when I'm on the go.

Desktop. I built this one years ago, and it's seen a few upgrades since I first built it.

i7 920 overclocked to 4.2ghz
12 gigs of corsair 2000 ram
OCZ 240 gig SSD
500 Mb fraps disk
1TB WD Blue backup disk for the SSD
2TB raid 5 array.
Two EVGA GTX 480 Hydrocopper FTWs
ASUS P6T6 WS Revolution board
800 litre per hour water pump (I'd have to look up the model)
CPU and GPUs on a half inch watercooled system.
1000W Corsair PSU

All of it is internal to the full ATX case. The tower weighs 68.3lbs.

To couple with that I have three 24" Samsung monitors. G500 keyboard, g930 wireless gaming headset.

I like using my first custom built desktop, with the i5-4670K processor and 8 GBs of RAM and 500 GBs of HDD with more specs I don't clearly remember, excuse me :winktongue:

But currently I'm at another country forcing me to use my laptop. I like my laptop too, with a second gen i5 and 6 GBs of RAM and a TB of HDD... (I've gotten so spoiled with the amount of storage available on this beast!

So for me, it all depends. I love using both and I'll choose which based on which scenario I'm at. :)

One thing I will say, anyone with a gaming desktop should be using an all-in-one liquid cooling solution for their cpu. They are so cheap now-a-days and well worth the money.

I also have a desktop I put together myself. I'd like to upgrade soon, but my setup is still chugging along pretty well.

^If I do upgrade, I'll definitely be considering those all-in-one cooling solutions. I'd like to try a custom loop myself, but I don't think I'll have the time.

I don't like the idea of having liquid inside the desktop, or anywhere near it!

What happen if I forget to put the cap on the system or a pipe breaks, my desktop will be in PC heaven.

This is one of the things putting me of a custom loop. All that leak testing and maintenance looks long. All-in-one not as much, but slight risk.

I have a crazy amount of fans in my desktop. And I don't trust the idea of liquid cooling. The amount of times I have to move my PC about to fix things (I have major dust problems in my room), the cooling solution wouldn't last 3 months before it destroyed my pc through liquid damage.
