For those who are dual booting Windows 10 as the main partition with Win7, 8 or 8.1 as secondary partitions or are still using Win7, 8 or 8.1 as the only OS in your PC, watch out for Windows Update KB3086255 as the update disables the secdrv.sys file's service disguised as a "security update of the graphics component" for Win7, 8 and 8.1 just like Microsoft removed the same file from Win10. This update prevents us from playing games or using apps with older versions of SafeDisc or SecuROM.

If you have not configured Windows updates to auto-install, then you'll have a good chance of not installing KB3086255 by hiding it, if you're unlucky like me configuring updates to auto-install, then the only way is to uninstall it by this method:
    1. Go to Control Panel and click "View installed updates".

    2. Scroll down to the "Microsoft Windows" section, successfully search for this update: Security Update For Windows 7 (KB3086255).

    3. Right click the update if you have successfully searched for it and click Uninstall.

    4. After the update has been removed, restart your computer and enjoy playing older games or using apps that use older versions of SafeDisc or SecuROM again.

Also, don't try to do a command prompt or use Registry Editor to edit secdrv.sys' properties as they'll never work, despite Microsoft posted them as workarounds, just uninstalling that KB3086255 update will do.

Also check this link from Microsoft as proof if you don't believe it: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/3086255
