Should I upgrade from the i5 2500k @4.7 GHz?

I've been rocking the 2500k overclocked to 4.7ghz (a overclock champion!) for many years now, along with 8gb of DDR3 1600mhz, a nvidia 1070 and a 950 Evo SSD. Since the performance improvements on the CPUs launched since then have been small between each generation I've been delaying the decision to upgrade since I'm going to need new CPU, new motherboard and new RAM, which is a 500 euros investment, at least.
Did anyone here went from an overclocked 2500k to the AMD 2700x or to the Intel 9700k, for instance? Are there noticeable performance differences in real world usage?

Counter suggestion....any way you could get a used Sky Lake or Kaby Lake CPU and board? That might help save some cash.

Thanks, but just to save 130 euros (16gb ddr4 3000mhz)? It's not worth it, I believe. And from my research only the skylake supports ddr3.

Sky lake supports ddr4. It was the first couple to do so.

I know but some motherboards support both. But if I upgrade I'm buying a 9700k, not a 6700k, 3 generations behind.

I would say yes. Although you won't notice much difference in speed, you'll notice the speed improvement with games. However, I suggest you get newer 8th/9th gen mobo with it. If money isn't an issue, definitely get upgraded FSB rams as well.

I would have to. The 9700k dosent work with ddr3 or my old Asus P8Z68V_PRO motherboard

Yes. Your CPU is 2nd gen, 9700 is 9th gen. Also FSB isn't same. Get a M.2 or NVMe SSD, you're going to love the speed.

I thought about it but I wouldn't really notice any day to day difference since I already have a SATA Samsung 850 Evo SSD.
But at this point I am eager to read the first reviews for AMD Zen 3800 CPUs, I have high hopes for it.
