Okay, I'm so pissed about some threads that WP is still behind. Behind in what?

I'd like to know everybody's opinion regarding this. So if I have a WP and everybody on the planet has iPhone or Android what am I missing? Will my life be not complete? Do you get laid more often if you have Android or iPhone? I want to know because with WP I can:

    1. Surf the Internet thru mobile data or WIFI
    2. Make and Receive calls (obviously)
    3. Make and Receive SMS/Text messages (obviously)
    4. I can use WP in almost all countries (GSM/3G/LTE)
    5. I can play movies and music via streaming or locally stored (Internal memory or SD cards)
    6. I can backup all my files including app
    7. I can use WP to share my internet connection
    8. I can share photos etc in social networks
    9. I can take good photos and edit them
    10. I can download and play games although limited
    11. I can try or buy apps from the store although limited
    12. I can read emails, respond to it etc
    13. I can watch porn too
    14. I can take Selfies too

I just hate it when somebody comes up to me and say oh my phone is 8 core 4GB etc. and I say to them so what? I think people are being misled into buying phones because of the specs. Its like you need a V8 engine for your car when you really don't need it. The bad thing is that it is now the reality. The misinformation campaign is working for the purpose of selling over specs H/W that you do not need.

Some may hate or like this post but its my opinion and I don't blame you if you think otherwise. I just want to know what you think about this. Peace.

    2. Apps don't cone or come late well that's kind of developers' fault
But it's true I hate how and Ignorant people can be when it comes to buying a phone.
People go for ****ty Samsung phones which lag after 7months of use.
And Nokia projects phone as a camera phone finally they have changed their ads and showing what really a windows phone can do. With 8.1 everything is gonna change in next few months

Many things, at least with Android. I've never used iOS, so no idea there. Here are some functions (and these are non-app-related issues) that I need my phone to do.

Attach arbitrary files to emails (i.e. any type of file, right from docx to exe to dwg to psd), edit forwards.

VPN (yes, I know, 8.1 but it doesn't work with my company's L2TP based system).

Non-app issues that I like but don't need:

Replace keyboards. I like WP's keyboard but I still think Swiftkey is better. I can customise my keyboard to look just the way I want it. For example, I hate numbers in rows and prefer a numeric keypad square layout. I can do this on Android.

Widgets. And no matter what anyone says, Live Tiles are not as powerful as widgets. I have a calendar widget within which I can scroll up and down and tap to access specific entries, without even opening the app.

Interactive notifications. If I get an email, I can choose to archive it right from the notification without ever reading it.

The "sharing" system. For example, from within Vignette, I can share a photo to Whatsapp or BBM or Facebook. I use Baconreader for reddit and when I see a post that I want to go back to on my laptop, I choose Share to Google Keep. Then it's there the next time I open Keep on my laptop.

    App issues that are needed:

    SSH

    Hacker's Keyboard

Photoshop PSD viewer, AutoCAD DWG viewer.

    Strikefleet Omega

    Citibank India app

    HSBC India app

    TripIt Pro

Singapore Airlines, Lufthansa, British Airways apps with downloaded boarding pass capability

    2. I cannot download MP3s or media files over the internet (which I need for some) - I think you can I just downloaded an MP3 off mp3skull
    3. no native file manager to access folders the way it should be accessed - I trying to understand this but this maybe a geek thing.

I think that is the big point I need, even if I never used any other smartphone OS than WP (so I don't compare, I just point out what I really need because it is essential and not smart to not have implemented this).

Quality apps. Most apps are there but not all, some feel unfinished and some dont get updates in a while. I need a youtube app that can connect to my tv or ps3 so that i can play videos and music there. I also need an app that i can use with google voice like talkatone.... So yea, wp works fine for the casual user maybe but not there still for the power user.

    I'll say it: Google Services.
No matter how much I want to use Windows Phone I realize more and more that Google Services are superior for day to day stuff. I am a college student so I make quick notes (lists, quick reminders, photos) directly from the Google Keep Widget and scroll and see what I need to do next or see what notes I have, all without opening the app. I also use Google Drive for all my papers, it allows automatic saving as you type so I never lose anything and it syncs instantly between my phone, laptop, and desktop. And finally Google Maps. I know HERE is a good alternative but Google Maps takes the cake for me. Google Now integrates with Maps which need me know what my commute will look like to college that day (traffic, length of trip). Google Maps also saves locations and syncs recent searches so that you can always find what you searched for or went to before. You can save favorite locations and set home or work so it takes only a tap to navigate. Not only that it bears mentioning that WP lacks defaults and intents. I can set default apps for specific functions like which browser go open for certain links. Deep app integration allowing apps to talk to each other so that pretty much everything can be shared to whatever app you want. There's more but I'll stop there.

The title of this thread includes iPhone yet I see file manager, email file attachments, etc. as knocks against WP. Guess what? The iPhone can't do these things either (natively). Comparisons need to be made with devices in their "out of the box" state.

The OP should be more clear I suppose of what can devices do OOB or are able to do with third party apps. But then again since iOS is capable of those things and WP is not (besides file manager now I guess) regardless.

So if I take a stock VW Jetta TDI and put a larger compressor unit and wastegate for the turbo, a larger stainless exhaust and some ECU tweaks, I can say it trumps the Prius' fuel economy and Toyota's a POS.

Apples to apples (no pun intended) is the only real starting point. Most consumers don't have a clue how to do the things we, as enthusiasts, can. Third-party solutions should absolutely be verboten.

The first part was lost on me, as I am not a car person at all. I said regardless, I didn`t say consumers or anything. I said regardless, iOS is capable of the things aforementioned, WP can only do a file manager now, everything else is entirely not possible. OOB though, neither have the same functionality of Android.

On the consumer side though, hopefully, in the near future consumers actually take the time to research phones before they get them so they know limitations and temper expectations, as all the information is there.

Well i use tapatalk and depend on it to talk to my family that lives in another country, saves me international fees. The youtube app that i use on ios connects flawlessly to my tv and my surround sound speakers, pretty nice feature if you ask me, it has been on android and ios for 2 years soo.... Honestly apps on Wp feel like 2009... Apps dont take control of my life, they just make things easier.

But like you say ''to each their own'', maybe you are used to limited features, maybe you dont need them, dosent mean someone else feels the same way.

I agree with you and that's what I thought since I got my Lumia 920. Still a solid phone, but...the 3rd party support is getting ridiculous.
Basic functions are just fine but with the rise of smartphone-related gadgets / products, iOS and Android have most of the support and the user has an option to choose whichever new products they like that are compatible. WP is not there yet and have been saying "coming soon" for 2-3 years.

Skype doesn't have a goddamn file sharing feature yet and it's suppose to be the most basic thing you can do. People tell me why don't I just use Whatsapp.
Well most of my clients are on Skype and Whatsapp isn't really a professional platform to be chatting business with. So sometimes saving me from having to tell my clients to wait for an email instead of sending directly from Skype will be highly appreciated.
"I can't send files with my Skype..." <-- can you believe i have to use this phrase in 2014??

It baffles me to see why Skype on WP is so far behind. It's their own game.

What can you do in iPhone and Android that you cannot do with WP?
    In short:
I don't even know I don't pay much if any attention to the other two.
I just update and use my phone and refuse to constantly make comparisons.

    Sorry

True an iPhone doesn't have a file manager and can't do email attachments out of the box, but an android can. I think all three platforms are capable of more than the average user does with their phone.

One thing I saw mentioned earlier is responding to items in the notification shade. I can see windows phone moving in this direction, but on my android I can manage various notifications from the shade without ever entering the app.
