Anybody able to comment? Presumably not in same league but interested in difference.

I had both....Nexus 5 will appear washed out and requires some post processing to bring out the colour, also tends to be a little noisier than the 1020. You also cannot change the ISO on the Nexus 5 (which is a big reason I ditched the N5 in favour of the 1020)

1020 has better depth of field and produces a higher quality image out the box thanks to the Nokia Camera app - Google have a ways to go with their processing algorithms. (well documented)

You also cannot do long exposure with the N5 and its sensor at low light is highly inferior - something I think they could improve upon with allowing adjustment of ISO setting.

By and large the N5 camera was good as a daylight "happy snapper" for Instagram, social media etc but personally I couldn't compare it to the 1020 for photographic ability and image quality.

I'll find some images taken with both and post them up soon.

The latest camera update from Google fixed most of the camera issues in the nexus 5.

Image quality and ability to change ISO are still not on par. Just the image processing algorithms were improved.....N5 has a long way to go to get close to even a Samsung Galaxy Note 3....

Android Central did a side by side comparison and the Nexus 5 came out ahead of the S5. I will post the link in a bit.

    Link?

My N5 was still nary a patch on my 1020 for image quality....I only say that as a person who owned and used both devices...

Just did some comparison between my Lumia 1020 and my friend's Nexus 5 and the result is exactly as seen in those other tests, Lumia is clearly the winner. In bright light Nokia can utilize all its ~40 million pixels and thus leading much sharper photos with room for even some cropping (digital zoom, if you want).

In low light (here night) a big number of megapixels doesn't count anymore, since individual pixels are more noisy and averaging is required. However, Nokia can still produce much more details at low light as seen here.

Here are the cropped photos directly from cameras. They are both quite dark.

After digitally enhancing the brightness a little bit reveals the noise in Nexus while Lumia preserves the quality and details:
