Right well when it comes to photography I'm not just a novice... I'm actually a moron. I've always been a point and shoot person.

Now I have a Lumia 635 which means 5 MP and no bloody flash. Now I've been trying to play with those adjustments (ISO, Shutter speed, etc.) but I have absolutely no clue what to use and when.

For instance, I had to take a picture in low light on Christmas.... well it came out in low light. Then I tinkered with it a bit and tried to take it again but it became almost black. Played with those dials again and it was blurry.

Is there an actual guide or something that I could use? I've found some on YouTube but they were either old or talking about the 1020...

Thanks :)

Hello Dialonde, I don't think I've seen a tut out there for the 635, but all the rules that apply to other phones will most likely apply to yours (give or take a few lol). Here are some links that could help you somewhat:

I know it's not always convenient to use a tripod or camera clamp...

The shutterbugs best friend!

I like this thing quite handy and very lightweight.

As far as low light with the 635 I've had varied success with:
Resolution 16:9
ISO 400
Scene on night shot
Resting the phone on a surface (if possible)

Good luck and take lots of pics...one of 'em has to turn out :)

Ya know,

I have a heck of a time taking awesome pics with any of my phones.
To say the truth I actually thought I did better with the 521.

Coming from film cameras I always had to think about the shot and be happy with the results.
These days I'm seldom happy.

It's supposed to be easy...isn't it?

This is why selfies and IG are so popular; everyone can be beautiful, even if it takes a million tries :p

True...
I know selfies aren't popular with some.

The wife and I do selfies on occasion for fun.
We seldom if ever post them anywhere on social media.

Maybe selfies are a way to start liking yourself again...

Oops K back to the topic!

I tried a few low lights with the 635 using Lumia cam and ProShot.
ProShot is working better it seems.

I've tried ProShots and it did do a better job but the app crashed one time and then just kept on crashing. When you need to take a snap because, say, your kids are doing something cute, you don't always have the time to open the app, look at it crash, find the other app and snap... by the time you're ready your kids are in college

Troo...
Like the olden days.
Every shot was an effort.

Wish someone made a snap on case for these phones that had LED's embedded.
(old saying: if you thought of it...someone else has already done it)
