Pure hearsay warning:

I was on the phone with an AT&T rep just a few days ago working out a problem on my Daughters L1020. I had a "WP specialist", whatever that means in AT&T speak, and while I had her on the phone asked about the official WP 8.1 update for the NEO. She told me ALL WP8 device are scheduled to get WP 8.1, but that all Lumia devices had priority. She said the HTC 8X and the NEO would get it, though she had zero idea of a time frame.

For what it is worth.

Awesome, thanks for the heads up. A little bit of reassurance, although they pretty much reiterated what MS had said since the beginning, but at least these are being RECENTLY coroborated. My Neo definitely needs the official firmware.

Oh really?? I have the Neo on Sprint (the maybe someday network) and there's no word on it. I contacted Samsung several times and here's the latest reply.

""Thank you for contacting Samsung Telecommunications America.

After reviewing your e-mail, we understand that you would like to know when Windows 8.1 update will be available for your phone.

We understand your requirement. We would like to inform you that Microsoft should be working on the update on your device. We are sorry to inform you that, we do not have information on the future update releases. We are unable to speculate when/if a software revision might be available due to the fact that this might lead to inaccurate information and confusion. However, once any update available for your phone, it should be notified on our official web site. We will provide you with a link through which you will find more information regarding your device. We would have surely helped you, if there was any information available at our end."

That is the most professional way of saying "I don't know" I have ever heard. You have to give points for a complete knowledge of the English language.

In addition, the Samsung support site posted an AT&T-specific user manual update in early September for Windows 8.1. I thought the link was on this site somewhere but I couldn’t get it to come up with a search. The Sprint-specific device has no such update though. Though I’m sure AT&T won’t confirm, taken with the manual, the “WP Specialist’s” comment may hint that AT&T is indeed testing an update. Sprint doesn’t offer any such hints, no one seems to know anything about WP, and their reps on their website repeatedly say they don’t know anything and will find out when we do if an update is ever announced on the website.

That seems extremely strange, as Sprint went out of their way to announce that both of their WP 8 devices (Neo and HTC 8XT) would get 8.1 right after the 8.1 reveal. Just strange.

I'm on Sprint & got tired of waiting & just updated using the Developer preview. It took a while as there were several updates that needed to process before finally updating to 8.1.
Everything works perfectly & I wish I had done it sooner

You realize that the delay on the Lumia Black had nothing to do with AT&T, right? They were experiencing bugs that weren't supposed to exist so rather than pushing an update with bugs to users, they and Nokia waited like they should've and made sure it was all running correctly. Plus, with a windows phone record like AT&T's, there's no comparison to other carriers. They are the only ones with all of their phones officially running 8.1.

To those of you that got the official firmware from AT&T, does 8.1 run more smoothly and is the battery life better? I have the neo on sprint and had a significant decrease in battery life with 8.1 DP compared with wp8 and have had a bunch of other random bugs. Hoping to get the official 8.1 from Sprint one day....
