Today I recommend a friends dad to check out the laptop reviews that Windows Central has because he is deciding between a mac and other higher end windows laptops for his business. Windows central has great reviews on both the mac and the best of windows laptops. But then I go to the main page to get caught back up on what I missed and I see:

"Access Porn on your Oculus Rift"
    snip_20170511162424.png

There is not even a NSFW tag. Even with the NSFW tag this is unacceptable for me and recommending people visit the site. Its not professional. It does turn off a big number of people going to the site (not to mention we have seen it like 5 times now, at least, since it was published). And I cant put my recommendation to a site that has that on the front page, no matter how good the reviews are.

I am sure "nobody" cares but I felt like I should point it out anyways because people actually do care.

I agree. Is accessing porn on VR really something people need help with? I'm pretty sure those who want porn know how, when, and where to find it. If they didn't, the multiple articles WC has already run probably got them on the right track. Will we start getting targeted ads for lotion and tissues???

This topic had been brought up several times in the past each time a topic such as this comes up. Believe it or not, but the reason for it because it gets requested for constantly (as said by the head of VR Heads).

Sadly, this is the world we live in, and in a lot of cases, porn actually has a big roll in how technology goes forward when it comes to what comes out on screens.

With all due respect, can't your friends dad be trusted to not click on that article and read it? There is no nudity or anything in the display picture. How does having this article in the news feed affect him if he doesn't click on it to read it? I read this website on a government computer that is constantly monitored and know what I can click on and what I cant.

People use their computers in different ways and it seems very strange to want to limit that used based upon what you personally find offensive. If you don't like it, just simply scroll past the article.

Like I said, not trying to talk down to you, I just want to understand why you think this is such a bad thing. If you could try and explain it to me, I would be grateful, thanks!

I can see both sides of the argument, but I too would be happy if that was kept just on the VR Heads site, don't need cross posting to all the Mobile Nations sites.

Yeah that's a tough situation. Definitely see your point and it maybe makes you question the site a bit if you've never been. It's unfortunate as there are so many great articles on here.

First off, sorry, I should have put the post here to begin with. I didnt see it :).

There are several reasons I think its a bad thing and I dont mind trying to explain it further :). But first let me just say I am not making a case against the morality of porn here, just that it is the reason I cant recommend this site to people.

The subject of porn is controversial. And even when its not controversial its not done in public. Not many family barbecues I have been to (my own as well as others) every casually bring up the subject. Because of that its not a public topic or in a professional setting. People might think it should be but its not.

With that in mind, the first reason it matters to me is it reduces the credibility of the site as a professional, advice giving site. If I went to a review site and how to look up porn is the first article I saw I wouldnt even bother looking at the site because I wouldnt trust the credibility of the rest of the site. I know windows central so I come back. But outsiders dont.

Secondly, it looks bad on me. By recommending the site I am also tied to the site. And when the first article is a casual article talking about porn in an open way its kinda like bringing it up at a family barbecue. The questions of "what site did he bring me too" wouldnt be a stretch and that reflects poorly on me. And I dont want people questioning the advice I give.

There are more but not as big as those so I will leave them out. I want to tell them about the excellent reviewers Windows Central has but that content takes away from that. I wont risk my reputation either. Ill find others and share that with them. But its a shame because I really think Dan has some great laptop reviews. And that Zac and Mark and the others have other great reviews as well.

I am sure it does get brought up a lot and I agree, it has a roll in how technology goes forward whether I like it or not. I just wish there was a way it was filtered out until someone asks for it or something. Is it tech related, yes. Is it professional, I dont think so. I know its a hard line to walk but for me it takes away from the sites and my credibility and I dont want that :).
