For those of you that have an 830, congrats.

How does the 830's performance compare to that of the 630/635? They have the same processor and graphics chip but how do they compare in everyday use?

Smoother and less laggy. The 635 performs very well, but playing with the display models at the Microsoft Store... I find my 830 to be a more fluid experience.

How can this phone possibly perform better than a 635 when it uses the same processor and graphics chip driving a higher resolution display? The only thing I can see that might make this possible is Denim... which will come to the 630/635 as well.

I have three lines with AT&T... one of the users is interested in the 830, but he currently uses an 820. I wish I could know how big of a step down it will be, especially for games. He's not overly concerned about technical specs, but he will definitely notice if it doesn't play his games as well.

I really would have felt so much better if they had used a Snapdragon 600. I just don't understand how they justify this model having the same processor as the 730 and 630.

(Incidentally, the other two users including myself are waiting for MS to release a 1030)

Well it does have 1 GB of RAM vs 512 MB. I think the GPU uses the system memory. It doesn't have it's own dedicated memory.

I also wish they could have gone with a Snapdragon 600, but Windows Phone doesn't support it. I'm guessing the device was in development over at Nokia before the sale was completed. If the device was developed from start to finish under Microsoft, I'm guessing they would have been able to ask the WP team to add support for the Snapdragon 600.

I thought I heard somewhere saying the 600 was discontinued or something?

I have both the 830 and the 635 and performance is about the same. Also I am finding the 830 is lagging where the 635 is not. Probably the higher resolution does that.

Really?! That's pretty disappointing...I haven't been a big fan of the 635. Hopefully AT&T will have a demo unit on the 7th so I could play around with it before making the purchase.

Well it's the same SOC so performance would be more or less the same, except for the memory intensive tasks.

Well don't get me wrong, the 830 is no slouch. If 1520's display size bothers you and glance is an absolute requirement then the 830 would be the only option

Yeah, that's the only thing that kind of turned me off the 1520 was the size. I work security for a night club and I'm constantly on the phone calling cabs and calling the manager. I was always worried about dropping the 1520 (came real close a couple times). I hope the 830 works well enough for me. If not, I'll probably get the 1520 again and get a tough case for it.

Don't get me wrong, I really love both phones. Just to clarify, I find it lagging with the stock Facebook app when swiping through pictures. Other than that it is an awesome phone. Coming from iPhone 5, I think the screen is absolutely awesome. There is something really pleasant with the touch feeling of the screen that I never seen on any Apple phone.

Crap...I'm starting to think getting rid of my 1520 for the 830 was a bad idea...lol

Na, don't. I gave it 3 or 4 weeks and sold my 1520 in favor of my 830. Absolutely no regrets. Performance was very similar between those two while the 830 was noticeably smoother than the 630 to me.

It looks a lot smoother than the 630/635 in all the videos I've seen. I'm sure ill walk away impressed after playing with it at the store this Friday. I just worry about the long run...

The 1GB of RAM instead of 512MB is a pretty big difference. Similar to PCs, a RAM upgrade is often more impactful to overall experience than CPU, especially if you are hitting memory limits (which you would on 512MB)

What you are actually getting with the 830 is better multitasking and support for all apps. All those Xbox games and apps like flipboard now can be used. It's definitely midrange that's for sure but the features that it has are usually found in WP flagships
