Hello Everyone

So I've been given an offer by my carrier in which they will clear my device tab if I sign up for another two years. I currently have a fully functioning lumia 920 that I love. Been thinking about a side-grade to a 830. It could still be a year or so before new windows 10 phone come out and maybe a bit longer to get to Canada. Thought it might be an opportunity to get newer hardware. Wondering what you wonderful windows phones fans think and if anyone has switched from lumia 920 to 830 and what they like or dislike. thank you for your time.

830 would be a nice side grade but if you can hang in there till 2015 with your 920 that would be good. Only go to the 830 if it doesn't mean you have to shell out money from your pocket because as nice a phone the 830 is I think it is way too overpriced.

It's nice now but you will regret it in a year. If they don't offer the M8 I would wait it out.

Sounds like they want the Lumia phones not an m8.

II'd take a free 830. How much more life and updates after windows 10 does the 920 have? If you like the form factor and don't mind the lack of 1520/930 specs but still better than your 920 specs then go 830

I'm keeping my 920, hoping for something good around April 2015. Worried that MS will hold off and release a true flagship November or December 2015.

I am on my 3rd 920 from Nokia for battery issues, I am about to throw it against a wall...if yours doesn't do that, I would say keep it, I love the phone, OS and size, but the battery issues drive me crazy

Unfortunately the M8 is not offered in Canada as a windows phone otherwise I would have upgraded to that to try it out.

The 920 can't handle 8.1 as it is, battery life is awful and the resuming screens are worse. I know you are a lumia ****** but he needs real help. The 830 is nice but ot also already presents resuming screens so presenting that as a long term solution is not great either. Fact is the M8 is currently"the" WP powerhouse, if it or the 930 is not available then waiting is a better option.

My 920 runs 8.1 beautifully. It runs super smooth and I get decent battery life with Cyan. I am too debating the 830 and the M8. I finally saw the 830 in person and it is sweet.

That's a tough spot. Any chance you can test-drive it for a week or two with a very clear option to return it? I got an 830 to replace my 920 and hold me over just until a W10 flagship emerges. I ended up returning it- the camera, the screen and the shape/size didn't agree with me at all.

Even if I'd like it, I'd be hesitant about locking myself into the 830 for two years. It's already going to miss out on Hey Cortana and 4k video (which I'm interested in just for extracting high-res stills). The W10 updates will likely bring more features that the 830 will miss out on.

You said you like your 920, and you didn't specifically mention micro SD support or the removable battery so I'm guessing those are not critical features. If you're mostly looking to freshen up, how about a 1020? Actually cheaper than an 830, and it's like getting a slightly newer version of the 920 you already love. Again though, probably not a good 2 year investment.

If your only options are holding out with the 920, or getting an 830 on a 2 year contract I'd keep the 920. Put aside a few dollars every week you keep the 920 and you'll be in a great position when the new flagship arrives, even if that means importing.

Thanks everyone! I spent most of the afternoon yesterday looking at specs and watching performance/comparison videos on youtube. I've decided to stick with my Lumia 920. The 830 looks like a great device and performs very well, but in the performance video I watched, the 920 really held its own and I wasn't convinced to change. My 920 is still in great shape for a 2 year old device. The battery IMO seems to be performing a lot better on my phone since the 8.1 update. So I think I'm going to wait and see what 2015 brings and I'll save my money just in case I have to buy one outright. Thanks again everyone!
