Hi all.

I recently (this week actually) sold my Samsung Galaxy S2 and bought a Lumia 920.
I did this for one reason only: I know Windows well (very well) and think of it to be the best OS in the world, by far.
The trade came with a price of course - some of my most favorite apps (such as Waze) do not have WP8 versions, but I went on with it anyway.

I was disappointed to discover one thing - WP8 makes no effort to be anything like it's desktop predecessor. It seems like the opposite is true.
While tiles and all that is cool - the metro sandboxing is horrible. I believe there is a reason why Android smartphones are now more popular than iPhones, and that is the freedom. The freedom to copy files, to download things, to save and send them.

On the very first day with my Lumia, I wanted to copy music to it, but forgot to. While in bed, I thought, "no worries, I'll just access my computer through SMB and copy the files from here". But obviously, I found out I can't. I don't know if the SMB client driver even exists on this thing, but I do know that there is no file system to access. And that even if I write an app that copies files through SMB (with my own client implementation or whatever), it won't be able to copy those files to other programs - isolated storage and all.

In conclusion - I don't know why you chose to go down this path. It might be a security issue, but I thought Windows was pretty secure as is. Plus, I think making the user's life harder to make sure he isn't hacked is not the correct way to go. I really can't see any reason why you did this other than security. I find it to be even less logical considering Microsoft has to approve each app before it goes on to the Store, so who would upload an evil one (and how)?

I for one plan on doing everything I can to break out of this Metro **** (any helpful tips? :)), but I hope you might consider changing it yourselves.

Aviv.

Apart from the UI, there are no similarities between Windows 8 and Windows Phone. WP8 is at least as restrictive and sandboxed as, say, iOS.
