Hey guys can games designed only for 1 GB ram devices be played on 512 MB ram devices if we install developer preview.

Sent from my C2305 using WPCentral Forums mobile app

I read about a method in a blog post on how to sideload apps which require 1 GB RAM into a 512 MB phone which is dev unlocked. Dunno if it works though

You can find games which requires 1gb for your 512gb phone, but these aren't official versions. It may not work properly. Wp8.1 developer preview has nothing with it.

Yes we can but only 2..i have side loaded modern combat 4 and subway surfers on my Lumia 520

The apps you are talking about are modified and cracked apps which are made compatible for 512 rams. You can't simply use/download the apps from store which require 1gb ram.

Just go for Lumia 920/820... About ?100 more? 1GB ram etc.
I thought the new motto for Windows phone was 'uncomprimised performance' I don't believe we should spend ?100 more to buy more games. Doesn't the developer know that 66% of people use 512 mb devices?

True, can't argue there. I am confused why such games require 1GB ram?
Where by on android some can run on devices with 512MB... Cue the lag!

But I remember reading an article about how the quad-core, octo-core, 3GB ram in phones are quite a gimmick. They say that if the developer was efficient enough then some apps can run fluently without the need guzzling down the battery

Yeah, even on my iPad 2 with 512mb ram, subway surfers runs flawlessly.

Because wp gives more RAM to the system than in android which gives a lot of it to the apps,, that's why wp is always smooth while Android is mostly laggy depending on the skin.

Then explain why the cracked version of 1gb ram games run well on 512mb ram

Maybe they make the game take less RAM, and they don't run that smooth compared to 1GB devices

True. It's all about ram allocation, if the app requires more ram, it takes memory from other resources such as processes going to the background when the app is launched. This is why people with 512mb phones are seeing longer loading screens. But obviously if there is not enough memory it should just crash.
