I'm currently writing an app for scanning and evaluation of QR codes for some purpose (which is not important for the question).
So for the User Experience I'd like to be able to execute code when the volume down button is pressed (a simple switch to the QR code capture screen (camera)).
Is there some way to do this?

Hope someone can help or at least tell me it is not possible because of restrictions on the OS/API side.

I am pretty sure that this is currently not possible. You cannot get or change the volume level of the phone in WP81, not even in Windows 8.1 (desktop). Hopefully they will open this more up in Windows 10...

Thought as much. Also i think you misunderstood me i don't want to access the volume level of the phone i only want to access/listen to the Event on the Buttonpress of the button that controls the volume levels.Which i think is also not possible..

Yes... Sadly the API is still so locked down on in many areas. I can understand they don't want any app to mess with global system stuff, and there are functions that really should not be used by apps, but they locked out way too much IMO. Hopefully it will get better with Windows 10. But we will have to wait until //Build conference next spring to see what really changes with the API there.
