Unless I am missing something, I find it strange that there is no connectivity with the base/HDD when you detach the screen.

I would think it a small matter of implementing some form of Bluetooth connectivity between the two parts.

Anyone else see this as a major oversight.

I honestly think its going to be too complicated and too unreliable to really do right. Speed might be an issue too.

HDD? That is in the clipboard and always connected.
Are you talking about something on the DOCK?

I think he meant the external HDD (via USB ports) or SD card reader.
But as xandros9 said, the speed and reliability will absolutely become a problem.
Unless they can use another wireless transfer mehanism instead of bluetooth. I don't know if a LAN wifi connection can do this or not, but this'd be the most viable option for this situation for now (this would require connection adapter for both pieces though)
It'd be very great if they could do it. Not just data transfering, but also other external parts (heck, can nowaday technology allows GPU to be processed over LAN connection?)

The SSD drive is located in the clipboard and not in the base. You can use a SD card in the base unit. I'm hearing the SB2 will have a Micro SD slot. If I need to access the SD slot I just flip the clipboard around and attach so I can use as a tablet and use the DGP and SD card.

Another option is to power the clipboard through the dock. The dock will charge the clipboard and you can also connect a HDD to it and access your data that way through just the clipboard.

Bluetooth external drives will work with or with the Clipboard attached to the base since the bluetooth card is located in the Clipboard. USB ports are only located on thew base (Keyboard). Although there are rumors the SB2 will have a USB port on the clipboard.
