Alarm won't go on.

I don't get the way the alarm works in W8.1/
With my old feature phone, I would set my wake up time for the morning and go to bed, with the phone turned off.
In the morning the alarm would sound and the screen said -do you want to turn the phone on?
Which means the alarm activates the sleeping phone/
With my Lumia 925, I set the time to wake up in the morning, and turn off the phone.
No alarm next morning. Only if the phone stays on during the night, will the alarm go on. (waste of battery to leave it on all night).
Am I doing it right here?

Smartphones are always on, whichever model.

The alarm is like your alarm clock by the bed.

Most people charge their phone overnight too, so being on is not a problem.

If you want to not receive calls and messages overnight (i.e. not be disturbed), look into Quiet Hours with Windows Phone 8.1 which enables you to automatically silence your phone.
