Android more profitable to Microsoft than WP?

I just came across an article which said that in 2012 Microsoft has earned 1.2 billion of the mobile os business. Out of which $400mn was off WP, rest off the Android. It was written that Google pays $15 to Microsoft for every Android phone sold, due to some patent issues with MS. Can anyone tell me what are these parents about

I believe it was the patents related to FAT32 based on what has been let out via court documents.
