Anniversary Update

Got the update yesterday. It installed with no issues and so far i really like it. I did notice that it reset my Nvidia options and resorted back to the Intel
as the primary dGPU instead of the Nvidia. Thats a simple fix so it really wasn't a big deal. Other then that I haven't noticed anything else it changed.

So I have a problem with the anniversary update immediately after it installed on my Surface Book. Windows Hello has failed 3 times in a row to dismiss the lock screen when logging me in (yeah, I've checked my settings, it is set to dismiss the lock screen when it recognizes me). I feel like this thing just went back about 10 months when that used to happen a lot. I hope a few reboots fix this, because otherwise, I'm going to be rather pissed off at that.

Oh and I truly did not appreciate having to fire up the group policy editor just to get cortana back where she belongs... disabled.

EDIT: Ok, rebooting a couple of times made the lockscreen not being dismissed problem go away. Yay!

I've set mine to Intel as the default and go into each specific app that I want to use the Nvidia and set them to use Nvidia. I do this for 2 reasons. In case I separate the clipboard from the base and the app is using the DGPU it will be to be restarted and saves battery life a bit.

I thought this was just about the default behavior? Mine mostly uses the Intel GPU and only nvidia for apps that need it. Basically, games and Adobe stuff run in my nvidia GPU and everything else runs on Intel (and I haven't really monkeyed with any settings for the GPU).

I am having terrible battery problems on my Surface Book - top model 1 tb drive - 16 gig ram. Large battery in key board only 2 hrs. and small battery in tabled disconnected only 30 min. I would suggest holding off if you have not updated yet.

I'm not sure this is normal post-update. I know I'm not having battery life issues on that order with mine (i5/256/dGPU). Have you looked at what's draining your battery (sleep study, perhaps?)?

Can you select Nvidia GPU for individual programs?

Microsoft Picture Viewer will not let me change to Nvidia GPU - it is stuck on Intel.

I cannot see my Sony RAW (ARW) files and I think this is at fault - I was able to see everything just fine before the update. I deleted the Sony driver and reinstalled but no joy.

I do have Nvidia selected globally.

EDIT: I don't know if this pertains or not but the SB is now giving me a "Please resolve before detaching" warning - on boot up!!!

I was at no time trying to detach the screen.

Could this be killing the Nvidia in preparation to use only the Intel chip?

Well if you go to the Nvidia control panel you can select what graphics card to use with that app. If it doesn't allow you to switch there is some kind of issus with using Nvidia.

That is exactly the problem.

Chrome, Cortana, Fresh Paint and others give me the choice of Nvidia or Intel Graphics. Fresh Paint for Pete's sake.

VLC, Media Player Classic HD, Windows Media Player and Windows Photo Viewer among others do NOT give me a choice - it's Intel only - which is ridiculous since these are the apps that would benefit the most from Nvidia graphics.

My SB sounds like it's dying if I try to play a movie, the fans crank up all the way and don't stop until I kill the program.

I did not have these problems before. I travel a lot and always have my SB for work and for watching movies. I also do a lot of photography and not being able to browse my pictures is a huge pain in the butt.

I'm thinking of doing a factory reset and staying away from any updates.

If it doesn't allow you to run with Nvidia there may a compatibility issue and contact VLC and/or MS support and ask them. I don't have any issues viewing movies on my Surface Book but I use GOM viewer.

Thanks, I'll try that, but I never had problems before using the same exact VLC version.

I did roll back the update and now my Sony Raw files are working again.

Is it just me or I need to do something else to get the anniversary update? Cause my SB still didn't get the update yet.
My current build is Windows 10 Pro 64-bit (10.0, Build 10586)

I've kept checking the update everyday, but only got the update of Windows Defender so far :-? Do I need to sign up or download something else to get it? Is it alright to get it right now?

Found the Windows 10 anniversary upgrade application from Microsoft website. Ran it and it recommend me to start updating. Is it safe?

Edit: Oh, I got it now. Had to disable the Defer update option
