Any way to play itunes (DRM?) on Windows Phone 8?

I've never used itunes ever. But I'm trying to get a file, like an ebook type thing online, downloaded it and it won't play on my phone (Lumia920). Apparently the author has it on itunes and even though it was a free download it can only play in the itunes store.
A little research found that files are protected by DRM, is there any way of removing that or transferring it to another media player that I can access on WP8? I can't find any apps but hoping someone knows something.

Can you burn the eBook to a disc in iTunes as an audio cd? If you can, burn it to disc then reupload it as an audio track.
