Any way to redeem a phone with bad esn?

I bought a used 822 on eBay back in August. Wanted a cheaper Lumia to take on fishing and kayaking trips. I have a 928 that is my everyday phone. Verizon said the 822 was clean at the time. I checked before purchase. I even used it a little after I got it. Went to use it again recently and Verizon shut off my service. When I called they said the 822 had been reported lost or stolen. I knew there was a possibility that this might happen.

Anyone know if there is any way to exonerate this phone?

Might as well mark it up as a loss. They generally do not change those. Heck, I don't know if they ever do.

Contact eBay, PayPal (if you used it), and file a police report. Be able to take all of that to Verizon to show them that you have the phone legitimately. I don't know if it will work or not - maybe you can get your money back through PayPal, maybe you can get the phone reactivated. No guarantees, but it is a guaranteed loss if you don't do anything.

Good news! I called Verizon again today and talked to them about it. Explained the sequence of events, that I had verified it was a good phone before purchase, and that I had used it on my account briefly after receiving it. The support rep found that the system had marked this phone as lost or stolen while it was in use on my account. It wasn't clear why. She removed it from the lost/stolen list and helped me reactivate it. It's working good now.

Shout out to Valerie at Verizon for really taking the time to research what had transpired and helping resolve this. I really appreciate the time she took and her patience. She really gets what good customer service means and should be commended. I wish the last Verizon support person I talked with would have done the same.

Good thing about the 822 is that it can be used on Verizon, AT&T, and Tmobile. And on GSM MVNOs. Great phone.

My Lumia 822 should arrive on Wednesday and I plan to use it on T-Mobile. Will provide an update once I have played with it.
