Since the biking tile came this has never happened. Wasn't sure if others were seeing it. See attached screenshots.

I think the band's access to iPhone steps is issue. I'll confirm tonight.

After morning ride band shows 400 steps, Apple health app shows 1700, and band app shows 1400

I am going for a ride today so I shall see what it show me though I don't have the iPhone but a WP but will report back later.

I wouldn't think that would be the issue, but I sent my Band in for warranty before the latest app update was released. I'm using Windows Phone, but the motion setting option has this description:

"Don't miss a beat--when enabled, your phone's motion tracking will fill in the gaps when you're not wearing a Band."

To me, that sounds like the data collected by the phone and the data collected by the Band wouldn't overlap, but I have no way to verify until I get my Band returned. Even if I'm right about Windows Phone, maybe the iPhone app and the motion tracking in the iPhone behaves differently.

Maybe they are being too smart for their own good. When you are using a biking activity the band intentionally stops counting steps. The band app on the phone might see that gap (think I'm not wearing the band) and fills it in with the data for that time period from the iPhone?

So I got back from my ride a little while ago and proceeded to get 15,000 steps. I agree that I think it is doing exactly what everyone is saying. Your on the Bike tracking but the app sees that your in that and so it is missing the band so therefore you get the steps from the phone.

I confirmed the cause on my way home. Before I left work I went into iphone privacy settings and took away the Band's access to steps from the phone. After that the steps were not counted during my bike ride.

Thanks! Good to know that in this case, the problem is not the Band, but the phone picking up phantom steps.....though perhaps MS could come up with a way to filter those out.
