Instructions:

Settings: Enter your user information. If the username does not exist, an account will be created. If the username does exist and the password matches, your account information will be updated. If you receive a bad username/password error, the username is not available and select another.

Request Users: Select the users application bar icon, then select the Add user icon. Enter the username of a friend and hit enter. If the user is found, you will be added to their request list.

Approve Users: Select the users application bar icon, swipe over to the requests pivot. Select a user and click the User Add button. This will approve the user and allow for sending messages between both users. In the request list users with () around them are users you have sent requests to. You can remove the request, but obviously can't approve your own request.

Send Message: Hold down on the "Hold to Talk". Say your message after the single sound plays while continuing to hold the button. When done let up on button to send the message. There is a 15 second maxium length and a countdown timer shows above the button to let you know how much time you have left.

Play Message: Select the message in the list to play it. Arrow pointing to user is to them (from you). Arrow pointing away from user is from them (to you).

Message List: Items listed are: Date, #Seconds, Direction of message (arrow to user is to them, away from user is from them), user. If a * appears before the username, that message has not been played from the user.

This would be perfect if it was cross platform as I'm the only WP7 user in the family. Would love to use this with my son(ipod touch) and my wife(iphone 3GS)

I would love to have iPhone and Android releases of Talk2Me. Howver, I don't have any resources to develop for those platforms. If you know of a developer that would be interested, please have them contact me at talk2me@ntworld.com. I would love to have a multi-platform solution.

A recent update to Talk2Me automatically adds user "feedback" allowing you to send a message to someone to test the application. This user is a second account of mine, so please feel free to send comments and suggestions to me using this account. Or just send a "Hey, whats up!?" and I'll reply back with something.

Things I am working on for Talk2Me:
  • Ability to send a video Clip (will probably be either a paid only or pro version feature)
  • Background Transfers of video and audio (outoing and incoming)
  • Web Interface (if someone doesn't have WP7)

I'm always looking for suggestions, so if you have ideas or recommendations on how somethign could be different or better, please let me know.

HeyTell seems to be the most widely used cross-platform walkie talkie.

Let's hope Talk2me is wanted for other platforms. :)

I actually contacted HeyTell on multiple attempts and finally got a response from them basically telling me they are not outsourcing or allowing external API support and to stop reverse engineering their API. :(

Whoaw. Hard ball. Well, good on you for developing your own app. It looks great. :)

An update to Talk2Me is now available from Marketplace that fixes the ad display for the purchased version. For those who have purchased the app, we appreciate your support and apologize for the ads not being removed after purchase.

Talk2Me v1.3 is now available from the Maketplace. Below is a list of the features and changes for Talk2Me.

  • Times are now displayed based on phone locale rather than PST.
  • Unread items over 3 days should only display if you are recipient
  • Streamline loading larger number of messages/contacts
  • Will no longer play incoming message while recording an outgoing message
  • Sometimes a message to short error would be presented for valid messages
  • Playing a corrupt message would leave the UI in an un-usable state and require a restart of the app
  • If push notifications where disabled, the loading progress bar could display forever
  • Max Message length is now 20 seconds for trial/lite version and 45 seconds for paid version.
  • Talk button is smaller, round and centered text better
  • Not allowed to add yourself as a friend
  • Setting to Disable Contact picture loading/matching
  • Now uses an SSL connection to talk to the backend server.
  • Auto user find/add via phonenumber lookup
  • Ability to disable Auto Approve of lookup and friend requests
  • Progress indicator when listening to a message

This version of Talk2Me also includes a news section, to allow sending short messages from us. Additionally, the ability to verify phone number and email information is available, but disabled on the server side. This will be enabled eventually allowing for automatic matching of friends based on your contact list. Only Phone numbers and email addresses verified can be auto matched, however.

Finally, the ability to add yourself as a friend has been blocked, and if you have previously added yourself, that friend has been removed. Remember, you can always add feedback if you want a user to test with. Althoiugh we don't respond to every feedback message, we do listen to every one.
